Saiga Internals and Conveniences
A variety of small parts are available to help reduce the Saiga's foreign parts count. In some cases these small parts are direct replacements, made in the USA but otherwise identical to factory components, but it is not uncommon for the replacement part to be superior in some way. In this way, the shooter can upgrade their Saiga while simultaneously achieving 922r compliance. Many other small parts exist solely to increase the rifle's user-friendliness or address deficiencies in the design, and do not count toward 922r compliance.
Additionally, Saiga rifles and AK rifles are so closely related that almost all small parts are interchangeable outside of the FCG (see the Saiga Triggers section for more information on Saiga and AK FCGs). Saiga shotguns, on the other hand, use a short-stroke operating system (AK rifles use a long-stroke operating system) so small parts are generally not interchangeable, although Saiga shotguns can still use the same grips and stocks. Despite the similarities between Saiga rifles and AK rifles, it is strongly recommended to check with the manufacturer before purchasing an AK part that is not clearly stated to fit a Saiga.
See below for a small segment of the Saiga rifle and shotgun "small parts" market.
