NFA (National Firearms Act)
This term requires a great deal of explanation. Please refer to the topic page on NFA items.
nitrogen-filled, nitrogen-purged
High quality telescopic and dot sights will have the sight body purged of air and re-filled with purified nitrogen gas. A nitrogen-filled scope is much less likely to fog in damp weather or after exposure to water.
NPZ
NPZ is a Russian abbreviation for the Novosibirsk Instrument-making Plant, located in Novosibirsk, Russia. NPZ produces a variety of optical instruments, but is most well-known in the US for producing the PSO series telescopic sights.
Although it is difficult for Westerners to gain insight into Russian equipment, NPZ seems to be a high-quality optics manufacturer that contracts extensively with the military, roughly analogous to Trijicon, Aimpoint, and Eotech here in the USA. NPZ sights are generally more expensive than sights made by other Russian or former-Soviet firms, and appear to be highly regarded.
