Upgrades and Modifications for Mosin-Nagant Rifles and Carbines
If you ever need a laugh, type "custom mosin" into Gunbroker.com. The hideous, botched-surgery modifications themselves are sometimes good for a chuckle, but the prices being asked are truly astounding. Who'd have known that bolting on parts results in a rifle that's worth more than its component pieces? I particularly enjoyed/despaired the miserable puddle of a person who painted the stock of his M28-76 "tactical black" and insisted the rifle was now worth more. Suffice to say, there is a lot of "reserve not yet met" happening.
Such indignities are a necessary evil, because the truckload of aftermarket/parts accessories available for the Mosin-Nagant means you can build a really nice rifle without ever setting foot in a custom gunshop, but it also means that all the idiots and bubbas of the world have many different ways to violate the dignity of these old battle rifles. Further compromising the Mosin-Nagant's self-respect is the rifle's price, which is low enough for anyone to own at least two, and the lack of any legal protection or limitations, as 922r does not apply to bolt-action rifles. But, on to the silver lining: below you will find a complete (to the best of our knowledge) list of all the parts you can buy to improve your Mosin-Nagant's accuracy, handling, or aesthetics. But please, for heaven's sake, remember that your Mosin-Nagant is probably a veteran of World War II, and regardless of sentience or allegiance, it deserves the basic respect accorded to any who return from combat.
